Meet the Mason Bee: Nature's True Pollinator
While honeybees get most of the attention, the Mason Bee (Osmia species) is arguably the most efficient pollinator in North America. Unlike honeybees, Mason Bees are solitary — they don't live in hives or produce honey. Instead, they nest in small tubes or hollow stems and spend their short lives doing one thing exceptionally well: pollinating.
A single Mason Bee can pollinate as many flowers as 100 honeybees. They're gentle (rarely sting), native to North America, and active in early spring when many fruit trees are blooming and honeybee populations are still building up. From Our Hive to Your Home
We're not just advocates for local beekeeping — we're living it. Texas Bee LLC is home to five hives: four established in May 2025 and our newest addition from May 2026. Each hive is a small world of its own, and tending them has been one of the most humbling and rewarding experiences of our lives.
We recently had our first taste of honey from our own bees — and there are no words that do it justice. It's unlike any honey we've ever tasted. Complex, floral, and unmistakably Texas. It reminded us exactly why we started this journey.
To do right by our bees and our customers, we're currently enrolled in a Honey 101 course at Texas A&M University as part of our Master Beekeeper Program. We're also awaiting sample kits to professionally test our honey for quality, purity, and composition before it ever reaches your hands. Our first harvest is planned for late September through mid-October — and we couldn't be more excited to share it with you.
When that honey is ready, it will be the most local, most traceable, most intentional product we've ever offered. Stay tuned.
